Mission Statement: Camp Aldersgate is dedicated to serving children with disabilities, youth, and senior adults in a camp environment.
Overview: Camp Aldersgate provides year-round respite programs, summer medical camping programs, summer and weekend camping for children with and without disabilities, a specialized youth volunteer training program, and one of the area’s longest running programs for senior adults. The facilities include 120 acres of wooded hills and paved trails, a six-acre lake, cabins, two zipline adventure courses, a fully accessible treehouse, an archery pavilion, and two pools.
Camp Aldersgate’s summer camps serve children with medical, physical, and developmental challenges. Campers stay overnight from Sunday to Friday and are provided complete care by Camp Aldersgate’s highly trained counselors, staff, volunteers, nurses, and volunteer physicians. There are also six sessions, called Med Camps, dedicated to children diagnosed with specific medical conditions, including muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, diabetes, heart conditions, arthritis, kidney disorders, cancer, bleeding disorders, and asthma. The camps offer most traditional summer camp activities, such as campfires, singing, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, swimming, and nature hikes. Some of the camp’s activities include an accessible challenge ropes course, hand and/or foot driven catamarans, adapted archery, and scuba diving. Activities are adapted so that children of all abilities can succeed.
Camp Aldersgate also offers Kota Camp, a program in which campers with various disabilities—primarily those not covered by a Med Camps—can bring a non-disabled sibling or friend. Two six-day sessions are offered during the summer.
