Mission Statement: The mission of PACER Center (Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights) is to expand opportunities and enhance the quality of life of children and young adults with disabilities and their families, based on the concept of parents helping parents.
Overview: PACER Center is a Minnesota nonprofit organization that provides services to families of children and young adults with all disabilities. PACER offers individual assistance, workshops, publications, and other resources to help families make decisions about education and other services for their child or young adult with disabilities. Most PACER services are provided free of charge to young adults with disabilities and to Minnesota families.
PACER offers 38 programs, 26 publications, six websites, eight newsletters, various workshops, and 49 archived webinars to help individuals with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who assist them gather information and make informed choices.
One of the resources offered is Possibilities: A Financial Resource for Parents of Children with Disabilities. First published as a booklet in 2004, Possibilities has been revamped and expanded in an online format. The guide offers tips and information on organizing financial records, managing money, dealing with debt, preparing income taxes, saving for college, and preparing youth for adult employment. When viewing the online version, each section also includes links to additional resources.
